Wilmington Voices, New Hanover County’s premiere professional choral ensemble, connects diverse communities through high-quality choral music and outreach programming. Their upcoming production, “Considering Matthew Shepard,” is a poignant oratorio reflecting on Matthew Shepard’s life and legacy, underscoring their commitment to social justice and emotional resonance.

Inspired by the 1998 murder of a young gay man in Wyoming, Considering Matthew Shepard shares a message of compassion and understanding. This three-part fusion oratorio incorporates a variety of musical styles, set to a wide range of poetic and soulful texts including passages from Matthew’s personal journal, interviews and writings from his parents, newspaper reports, and more.

Wilmington Voices believes the powerful and collaborative art of choral singing is valuable to all communities; it contributes to our spiritual and cultural life while nourishing our relationships with others. A portion of every ticket sold will be donated to the Matthew Shepard Foundation to support their mission to amplify the story of Matthew Shepard to inspire individuals, organizations, and communities to embrace the dignity and equality of all people.
