As the Designated County Partner to the North Carolina Arts Council, the Arts Council of Wilmington & New Hanover County is pleased to announce the grantees for the Artist Support Grant (New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, Bladen and Columbus counties and the Grassroots Arts Program grant (New Hanover County).

Travis Corpening Brunswick Film $1,000 Production of a short film/musical performance of an original piece titled Black Fire: The Unfinished Story of a Port City, combining hip-hop and film to engage young audiences about 1898.
Carolyn Faulkner New Hanover Visual Arts $1,000 Creation of eight to twelve large scale acrylic paintings of flowers that look like birds with a surreal and/or a fantasy twist to them.

Summer Hammond New Hanover Literary $1,000 Funds to write a memoir titled “The Poison House” that explores her upbringing in rural Iowa and Missouri, one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, who suffered severe and unusual chronic illness due to high levels of formaldehyde in our trailer home.

Mary Christine Parks New Hanover Literary $1,000 Editing services on a 46,000-word middle grade fiction manuscript, “The Stars Above Glow Ethereal,” highlighting the decline of mental health in children and adolescents.
Susan Polizzotto Pender Visual Arts $666.27 Purchase of materials and equipment to wet mount shodo, Japanese calligraphy
Robin Robertson New Hanover Film $1,000 Purchase of a camera to continue production of ‘Just Sayin’ Songs’, twelve videos/songs by Margaret Kerry (95 years) widely known for being the first ‘Tinkerbell’ human model for Walt Disney’s
animated feature Peter Pan.
Kathy Sohar New Hanover Puppetry $1,000 Purchase equipment to produce web-based puppetry content for both children and adults.
Sara Sommers New Hanover Theater $945 Sara Sommers and Cathy Street are co-writing an original musical, INK’D, s about a tattoo parlor, its owner, and the unlikely collection of customers who find themselves united in a larger story when trapped by a snowstorm.
Terrill Williams New Hanover Theater/Costumer $1,000 Purchase of a sewing machine, serger, and supplies to create costumes for theater productions.
LJ Woodard New Hanover Theater $1,000 Participation in the Broadway Teachers Workshop, training sessions, workshops, and discussions led by Broadway professionals.to support youth theatre education at the Performance Club Theater Company.
